Best Actress Award

And another prize for a japanese actress. Shinobu Terajima won at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival, this weekend,  the Silver Bear for Best Actress.

Koji Wakamatsu’s “Caterpillar” is inspired by a short-novel with the same title written in 1929 by Rampo Edogawa.

The story centers on the hard life that a couple must endure. Shinobu Terajima plays the role of Shigeko, a wife who must take good care of her husband. He came back from the war [we are in 1940] but without his arms and legs.

The movie captures the drama of being involved in a war. As the director stated, the movie refers to the large number of people that suffered because of the war. It’s not only about who fought for their country, but about those who changed their lives forever in order to fulfill the duty of protecting the country.

Blood and burnt flesh – that’s the war in it’s pure essence!
